Arlequin Trio
Only a few chamber music ensembles remain unchanged in their original lineup for more than 40 years. The Arlequin Trio is one such ensemble.
In 1986, Roland Perrenoud (oboe), Michael Reid (clarinet), and David Schneebeli (bassoon) came together to form a trio d’Anches, the name given to this particular combination of instruments. All three were principal wind players with major Swiss symphony orchestra in Geneva, Zurich and Basel. Throughout the decades the three friends have preserved and deepened their joy in making music together in this ensemble.
Following concerts throughout Switzerland, the trio went on to perform in France, United Kingdom and the Netherlands, often combining their appearances with workshops or masterclasses. Their annual summer courses at the Hindemith Music Centre in Blonay attracted students and amateur musicians from around the world for many years.
In 2006, the trio released a CD on the German label Animato, featuring highlights from its repertoire.
For many years the Arlequin Trio has also served as the nucleus of chamber ensembles, principally piano, flute or horn. The intimate setting of the trio remains the central focus, around which the other instruments are woven.
